I've had several mamas tell me they wouldn't want a birth photographer for the very reason that they desire an epidural and that their birth day wouldn't be much to photograph. This birth proves that very suggestion wrong. Jacquelyn's birth day was nothing short of beautiful with captured moments of laughter, connection between her and her husband, and sheer joy and surprise of holding her 10-pound baby boy in her arms!
I arrived at the hospital at 8:15am just two hours after Jacquelyn checked in. Her water broke an hour later, and she blissfully worked through contractions in the bed at 6cm dilated. Kurt, her husband, massaged her feet, brought her popcicles, and fed her ice chips all while making her laugh between contractions.
All of a sudden around 11am, Jacquelyn's contractions completely stopped. They ended up giving her pitocin, and she chose to get an epidural to work through the intense contractions that the medicine brought. Not even a full hour later, Jacquelyn rapidly dilated to 10cm and 100% effaced.
Her doctor was in and out of the room in less than 15 minutes with the quick delivery of her beautiful son, placenta, repairs, clean up, and a handshake. This 3rd-time mama knows how to birth her babies!
Chandler was 10 pounds 1 ounce and measured 22 inches of goodness! Jacquelyn was a warrior mama and brought her son so swiftly and flawlessly into the world. I loved documenting every moment.
