Anna called me a couple weeks before her actual birth day thinking her water had broken. We were all sure that baby was coming then. Anna and her husband headed up to the hospital, and I even headed up there a few hours after her just to check on her around midnight. To Anna's dismay, it was false labor and she was sent home the next day. According to her doctor, she had two layers to her amniotic sac and only the first layer had broken.
Anna called me again March 8th at 11:45pm. I headed up to the hospital around 2am when she was 5cm. Anna was already in deep concentration with Cara, her doula, by her side. She progressed quickly and one of the most beautiful transformative moments of Anna's birth happened in the bathroom. Sitting on the toilet was the most comfortable position, but transition hit Anna hard. She was ready to give up and tears washed down her face freely.
This was the point I knew she was within the hour of finding out if her baby was a girl or boy. Anna crawled on the bed to have the nurse check her one last time. Minutes later she was ready to push. It didn't take but a few minutes of hard work and baby GIRL Adeline was born. Most were guessing this baby to be a boy, so her gender came as quite the surprise!
Adeline was born at 6:04am at 6lbs 1oz!
