This year I decided to become a birth photographer. No, I was not a different kind of photographer deciding to expand my business. Yes, I took a tremendous pay cut from being a speech-language pathologist. I started this business from scratch, knowing nothing but where the shutter button was and how much I loved the birth process. Freezing tender moments in time during birth has not only been a joy, but it has been an unspeakable honor. It is a pass to witness a mama in her most vulnerable state, may that be through anguish or elation.
These 13 births in 2016 were the catalyst to my roaring passion for birth and photography. I evolved as a photographer improving drastically from one birth to the other, may that be actually capturing the fleeting moment or changing editing styles. As a birth worker, I learned more than ever to protect and encourage a mama through such a pivotal experience. I cannot express how thankful I am to have documented these beautiful birth stories. I cannot wait for all the 2017 birth stories to come! Take a look below
